The barn in the yard at the rear of the house. In times gone by this housed the village bakery
Inside the barn you can still see the old bakery ovens

These pictures are from 1936 when there was a fire in the bakery behind Penn House (which itself was also the village Post Office. The picture on the left shows the Wantage fire engine refilling from the pond. The photo on the right shows the fire in progress with many people helping to take things out of the Post Office to avoid fire damage. Those helping include Mrs Legge (Marie) on the right.
